Evangelization, re-evangelization, renewal and revival of the Parish is only possible with changed people. The BCCU will foster the growth required within the Christian Community of Santa Cruz and by so doing bring change in the Parish Community.
The Parish has been divided into Six BCCUs. These Units will meet independently utilizing the forums,monthly Mass, prayer meetings, house visits, and Bible study. This will allow us to bring Christ and the Church closer to the community. As we bring the Church closer to the community via the Sacramental life we expect people who have gone away from the Church to return. Persons will be exposed to the joy and family spirit of Christian fellowship. This will bring people back to Christ and the Church. We are already seeing the results of our efforts as the parish is witnessing people coming back to the Catholic Faith.
The role of BCCU is to empower people to take responsibility for the life of the parish while developing within them a passion for Church Life and make the Parish a “Eucharistic Community”. During BCCU meetings there will be discussions leading to the identification of issues at the grassroots level. As these issues are identified, it is expected that leaders will take responsibility to reach the needy in love. It is important to note at this juncture that the Parish receives some resources from the government for the maintenance of the Parish. Recently we received support in the form of ten streetlights for the parish compound. The parish itself has raised almost TT$500,000.00 from the recent Parish Harvest as well as collected more than TT$.100,000.00 towards medical help for three parishioners this year.
We need to address the stagnancy in parish life and bring in new leadership to execute new and dynamic initiatives according to the needs of the parish. One of these initiatives must identify the skilled human recourses available in the community so that the community may develop a professional approach to leadership. This professional approach would allow for the taping of various resources from the local community, government and various agencies to take care of the development, maintenance and restoration of the structures, Land and Property of the Parish.
We have identified the Pastoral Priorities for the Pariah as follows;
1.Faith Formation and the personal development of Children and Youth in the parish are critical. In support of this we have asked parents who form the BCCU to ensure their children come to Mass and the Faith formation programme held on Sundays at 9.00am. The Faith formation team is very keen to bring out the talents from their charges. Based on our efforts, we have over 90 Youths and children taking part in our Faith Formation programme that started on 4thMay 2014.
2.The Structuring and restructuring of Parish administration as well as the various Committees with available human resources. (We already have about 100 volunteers in various Committees)
3.The Development, restoration and maintenance of the property belonging to the Parish. (Projects focused on the Restoration of the Church Building, the Regularization of the Cemetery and the building of a new Car Park, are in progress.)
4.The development of a steady income-generating program for the Parish. (We have already developed a steady income for the parish that is separate from Sunday Collection)
5.The Building up, nurturing and consolidation of a self-sufficient human resource base for the parish to leverage support for all our spiritual and social events.
