In Podillya, a small village in the province of Ternopil in Western Ukraine (В селі Поділля раіон Заліщики обл. Тернопіль Украіна), the Greek Catholics built a church in honor of all the saints of the Ukrainian people. Some icons of new martyrs are also present in this church; among these, the Ukrainian Redemptorist martyrs Nicholas Čarneckyj, Basil Velyčkovskyj, Zeno Kovalyk and Ivan Ziatyk.
Father Johan Meijer, our confrere from the Province of Sanctus Clemens, reported about this church. The artist that produced these icons is the painter, Michail Chalak, from Ivano Frankivsk. Fr. Meijer came to know of his work through the artist’s daughter, who lives in the Netherlands and is a member of St. John Damascene Parish in Hertogenbosch, where our confrere is the pastor.
Fr. Meijer kindly sent the Office of Communication some photos of the church, so that we might enjoy the beauty of Byzantine icons.
