This Lenten season has brought a time of deep spiritual renewal for the faithful in Nairobi, highlighted by impactful retreats at three parishes led by the Redemptorist Missionaries.

The journey began with a heartfelt Lenten Retreat at St. Austin Msongari Parish from March 16th to 20th, 2025.The theme, “Being Pilgrims of Hope in the Spirit of Lent” (Romans 5:5), inspired participants through powerful preaching, reconciliation services, and Eucharistic celebrations. The Redemptorist team collaborated closely with the community, encouraging everyone to embrace hope even in challenging times.

Following this, the Redemptorists hosted a successful retreat at St. John the Evangelist Parish in Karen from April 1st to 4th, 2025. Many parishioners participated, engaging in prayer, confession, and reflection, which fostered a renewed commitment to living out Gospel values.

The spiritual journey continued at Assumption of Mary Umoja Parish from April 6th to 12th, 2025. The retreat began with an introduction by Mission Superior Fr. Titus Mutiku, C.Ss.R., inviting the faithful to a deeper experience of conversion and renewal. Throughout the week, various themes were explored, emphasizing the importance of prayer, reconciliation, and family as a source of hope. The retreat concluded with a powerful reflection on Mother Mary as a beacon of hope, led by Fr. Pius Juma, C.Ss.R., who also celebrated the concluding Holy Mass and blessed families.

Throughout the Lenten Retreats, the team also promoted devotion to Our Mother of Perpetual Help, encouraging the faithful to turn to her as a constant source of comfort and intercession. In addition, the retreats provided an opportunity to promote vocations, particularly among the youth. Notably, the Redemptorist team was accompanied by students in Theology and Philosophy, who actively participated in the mission. Their involvement was a valuable part of their formation, offering them a practical orientation to mission preaching and pastoral engagement.

These retreats reflect the collective effort and deep desire for spiritual growth among the people of God. The Redemptorist collaboratively ensured that each retreat was meaningful and transformative, with a clear message: Hope in Christ is alive and Active, and Lent is a Sacred Time for Returning to the Lord.

As we look forward to the upcoming Easter Retreat at St. Mary’s Mukuru Parish in Nairobi from April 22nd to 26th April 2025, we give thanks for the seeds of faith sown during these retreats and pray that they bear abundant fruit in the lives of all who participated.
