For two weeks this July, the Church of Divine Mercy in Shah Alam came witnessed with faith, reflection, and community renewal as it hosted a 14-day parish mission led by three Redemptorist priests from the Vice Province of Malaysia and Singapore.
Responding to the invitation of parish priest Fr George Harrison, the Redemptorist team — Fr Patrick Massang, CSsR, Fr Terence Wee, CSsR, and Fr Antony Prabhu, CSsR — accompanied the parish community from July 1 to 14 under the theme “Celebrating, Listening, and Walking Together as Pilgrims of Hope.” The mission was focused to deepen the faith of parishioners, strengthen bonds within the community, and renew the parish’s shared commitment to walk together as disciples of Christ. Throughout the fortnight, the mission team visited more than 30 Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs) spread across seven zones, engaging parishioners in their neighborhoods. Each evening, the program featured formation talks, the celebration of the Eucharist, and time for fellowship. Notably, the mission was conducted in four languages — English, Mandarin, Tamil, and Bahasa Malaysia — reflecting the multicultural makeup of the parish and ensuring inclusivity for all.
Special sessions were also organized for parish leaders, including zonal heads, BEC leaders, the Parish Pastoral and Finance Councils, and the Operations Team. These gatherings focused on leadership formation, pastoral collaboration, and community building.
The mission gave particular attention to the younger members of the parish. Dedicated formation days were held for altar servers, focusing on their spiritual growth and understanding of their ministry. A special youth program highlighted the lives of Blessed Chiara Badano and Blessed Carlo Acutis, offering the young participants inspiring examples of faith in action.
On the weekends, the parish was filled with formation sessions in each language group, drawing large turnouts. Parishioners shared that the mission reignited their spiritual lives, gave them a renewed sense of belonging, and encouraged them to be active witnesses of hope within their families and communities. At the close of the mission, Fr George Harrison offered his sincere thanks to the Redemptorist missionaries. “This mission has been a tremendous blessing for our parish,” he said. “We are grateful to the Redemptorists for journeying with us, encouraging us, and helping us to rediscover the joy and hope of our faith.” The Redemptorist parish mission at the Church of Divine Mercy stands as a testament to the power of faith when a community comes together to listen, grow, and move forward as pilgrims of hope.
