On July 28, the La Mancha Philharmonic Orchestra filled the Parish of the Most Holy Redeemer in Madrid with Gustav Mahler’s “Resurrection” Symphony, conducted by Francisco-Antonio Moya. It was the dress rehearsal before the official performance, held the following day in Burgos Cathedral, but in this Redemptorist church, the great music became prayer and marked the beginning of Saint Alphonsus Week.
We spoke about this moment and about the life of the parish community with Fr. José Miguel de Haro, C.Ss.R., parish priest of the Most Holy Redeemer.
What has this concert meant for the parish?
“Many members of the parish community are already on vacation; however, it has been a good opportunity to begin the celebration of Saint Alphonsus and the closing of the parish year.”
What other important moments has the community experienced this year?
“This year we blessed and inaugurated the biblical panels that now adorn the parish chapel. We also continue our humanitarian aid efforts, which have focused on Ukraine for several years now. With the help of the Acoger y Compartir Association, we were able to give meaning to our concern for those who are suffering.”
The symphonic concert was not an isolated event: the parish also offers the faithful other moments of religious and cultural formation, such as the reading, last week, of the homilies of Pope Leo during his trip to Spain.
A message for the feast of Saint Alphonsus
“On the feast of Saint Alphonsus, musician, writer, painter, Doctor of the Church, and founder of the Redemptorists, we share with you a video of the concert as a treat.
