Fr. Mike Brehl, Superior General of the Redemptorists made a three minute intervention at the Synod on the Family during the morning session of Tuesday 6th October.
Fr. Brehl spoke about the family and the principle of inclusion that is to be found in the Instrumentum Laboris, as well as in Gaudium et Spes and other papal documents.
“Even when members of our family face difficult or challenging situations, they are still part of the family and must not be considered as ‘outsiders’”, said Mike Brehl.
“These convictions have pastoral consequences. At this point in the Synod we are treating the situation of the family with its joys and griefs, lights and shadows, strengths and challenges. Later we will treat the pastoral response to particular situations.” Fr. Brehl explained to Scala News.
The Fourteenth Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops which has as its theme, “The Vocation and Mission of the Family in the Church and in the Contemporary World.”, ends on October 25, 2015.
