The province of Vietnam celebrates its Golden Jubilee


The Redemptorists in Vietnam celebrated the Golden Jubilee of the province on 27th of May, 2014. The celebrations started with the thanksgiving Mass at 5 pm at the Redemptorists headquarters in Saigon, Vietnam. Bishop Paul Bui Van Doc, archbishop of the diocese of Saigon was the main celebrant.


Peter Tran Dinh Tu, former bishop of Phu Cuong, Stephen Tri Buu Thien, bishop of Can Tho, Joseph Dinh Duc Dao, Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Xuan Loc, Bishop Joseph Chau Ngoc Tri, Dominican Provincial Superior, and many superiors of different congregations along with over 120 priests concelebrated the Holy Eucharist. A large number of nuns from different Congregations and over 1,000 faithful attended the solemn liturgical celebration. It was not only an occasion of sharing fraternity and solidarity but also an occasion to express gratitude towards God for the great works He has accomplished through the faithful missionaries and sons of St. Alphonsus.


Redemptorists began their mission in Vietnam in 1925 with three Redemptorist missionaries from the Province of Canada. By 1964,the unit of the Redemptorists in Vietnam became an independent province. The vibrant province of Vietnam now has 321 members, including 192 priests, 2 permanent deacons, 19 deacons, 31 brothers and 77 professed students.
