The redemptorists prepare to establish a mission in albania

Fr. Pedro López, provincial superior of Madrid, Spain, participated in the meeting of the Council of the Conference of Redemptorists in Europe from March 15-18. The main objective of this meeting was to finalize preparations for beginning the first interprovincial mission and community of the Conference that will be begun in Albania.

After a day of meetings in Rome, the group traveled to Tirana on the 16th to meet Archbishop Rrok Mirdita and his auxiliary bishop, Georges Frendo. With profound gratitude toward the Redemptorists, the diocese did everything to make us feel comfortable.

The next day, accompanied by the current pastor, we were able to get a closer look at all the areas of the Parish of Saint John Mary Vianney, which three Redemptorist missionaries will begin to serve in September. The parish, in the city of Tirana, serves 21,000 Catholics, in a total population of 80,000 living in the neighborhood. It offers immense opportunities for good work.

An intense period of preparation for learning the language and Albanian culture and for developing a community plan on the part of the Council of the Conference and the members of the new community will now begin. Our best wishes for this new project.
