Meeting of the C.Ss.R. Secretariat for the Redemptoristines

Fr. General Michael Brehl called the meeting of the C.Ss.R. Secretariat for the Redemptoristines and invited the Service Board members to attend. The meeting was held from May 5 – 7, 2015 at the Generalate in Rome.

Fr. General presided at the meeting and the members of the Secretariat present were: Fr. Emilio Lage, Fr. Mirosław Grakowicz, Fr. Patrice Nyanda, and Fr. Phaiboon Udomdej. Fr. Piotr Chyła, Director of the C.SsR Spirituality Center, participated as a guest. The members of the Service Board present were: Sr. Joan Calver, Sr. Imma Di Stefano, Sr. Ewa Dobrzelecka, Sr. Gabrielle Fox, Sr. Magdalena Schumann.

At the beginning of the meeting the group reflected on the situation of the Order and some statistics were presented by Fr. Emilio Lage: In 1930 the Order had 663 professed sisters in 26 monasteries, most of whom were living in European countries. Only two monasteries were outside Europe in 1930.

Today there are 387 professed sisters in 40 monasteries spread throughout the world – with more than 20 communities outside Europe. More than half of these sisters are under 70 years of age. Currently the majority of the younger sisters are living in Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia.

The Secretariat then received some reports on the other areas which belong to the mandate of the Service Board: Unity, Communication, Formation and Spirituality.

During the meeting Fr. Antonio Marrazzo reported to the group about the Cause of Sr. M. Celeste Crostarosa.

On June 3, 2013, Pope Francis authorized the Congregation for the Causes of Saints to promulgate the Decree on the heroic virtues of Sr. M. Celeste, which officially conferred on her the title of “Venerable”. After this Decree, it was possible to submit a proposed miracle for approval. The medical experts have expressed a positive opinion on the presumed miraculous cure. The next steps, if they are positively accomplished, will make the beatification coming in the near future.

Our meeting of the joint Secretariat and the Service Board members was graciously facilitated by Fr. General, the Fathers of the C.Ss.R. Secretariat and the hospitality of the community of Sant’Alfonso in an atmosphere of prayer.
