New Ways to Evangelize

News from Caracas, Venezuela

Quarantine is giving us a chance to make a difference. It has been a challenge that has led us to seek new ways of relating to our brothers and sisters and helping those in need. Thanks to Father Jonathan González, C.Ss.R., Pastor of the Church of Saint Alphonsus Mary of Liguori, we were able to participate in the program “We See Ourselves in the School”, an agreement of the Association for the Development of Integral and Community Education (Aseinc) with UNICEF. This program was initially for children and young people who do not attend school. A census was taken of 40 children and young people who were not studying, but due to the quarantine, it was extended to children in school.  The aim is to continue the teaching and learning process from their homes. These children and young people will be counseled by facilitators living in the community.

As part of this program, three combos were received, one of food, one of a hygiene kit, and one of the educational materials. Eighty-five children benefited from the educational packages, and 57 families benefited from the food bags and the hygiene kits. The program will run for three months in the community of Brisas del Paraíso.  We hope that it can be expanded and benefit more vulnerable children.

Some Redemptorist lay persons have taken up the challenge to participate in this program that has made a significant impact on our community.  This experience has been gratifying, seeing the smiles of the children with their backpacks and their parents receiving the food. It was an indescribable emotion.  Seeing them happy is our best reward.

Thanks to Aseinc and Unicef, for putting smiles on the faces of these children.  Thanks to Fr. Jonathan Gonzalez because he is always attentive to and in solidarity with the needs of the community and thanks to the team of Redemptorist lay people at Brisas del Paraíso.

God is present in the midst of these concrete realities. Let us not be determined by fear, let us use creativity to do good, let us seek new ways to help our brothers in need and let us be witnesses to the Redeemer, giving preference to affection and solidarity with the most vulnerable of our time.

Modos Nuevos de Evangelizar

Caracas-Venezuela
