Teachers and representatives from eight countries gathered in Atyrá, Paraguay, to reflect on new technological scenarios and the need to cultivate interiority in schools.
From June 1st to 5th, the Marianela Retreat House, located in Atyrá, Paraguay, hosted the Fourth International Meeting of Redemptorist Educational Institutions. The days were experienced as a true space for communion, discussion, and pastoral development for the communities of the Redemptorist family.
The inaugural ceremony began with a message from Father Rogério Gomes, Superior General of the Congregation, who encouraged those present to train not only competent professionals, but also aware, compassionate, critical individuals committed to building a more fraternal and evangelically human world. This year’s session focused on the emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in our schools. In light of this global phenomenon, participants analyzed the impact of the encyclical Magnificat Humanitas, a seminal document that fosters the enrichment and deepening of the moral, ethical, and pastoral perspective on the use of these technologies.
As a necessary counterweight to the technological debate, the meeting included a profound reflection on spiritual intelligence, illuminated by the thought of philosopher and theologian Francesc Torralba. This space invited us to rediscover the importance of cultivating interiority, the capacity for wonder, and questioning the meaning of life.
This year’s event was especially distinguished by its international and fraternal character, with the rich presence and participation of delegates from Germany, Bolivia, Colombia, Peru, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Argentina, and Paraguay, demonstrating the global vitality of the charism in the educational field.
The days were accompanied by Father Gerardo Hernández Carrasquillo, member of the General Government and Coordinator of the Commission for Redemptorist Educational Institutions, and Father Javier Machado, Superior of the Pedro Donders Province, who strengthened their shared commitment to continue walking together.
