From June 8 to 12, 2026, I attended the first session of the annual provincial retreat in Krakow. The lectures were given by a renowned moral theologian and professor at the Pontifical Alphonsian Academy in Rome, Fr. Vimal Tirimanna, a Redemptorist originally from Sri Lanka. The guiding theme of the reflections was a phrase from the Gospel of St. John: “I am the good shepherd” (Jn 10:14).
I believe that, given the importance of the issues related to synodality, spirituality, and leadership in the Church, the choice of preacher was apt. Fr. Vimal is one of the theological advisors to the Synod of Bishops on synodality.
The lectures and homilies were held in English. Thanks to Father Vimal’s simple, communicative style and the assistance of interpreter Father Dominik Jurek, the language barrier was not a problem and the topics covered were presented appropriately.
During the retreat we had plenty of time for personal reflection, as well as for both communal and individual prayer.
I believe that each of the eleven participants felt contented. For my part, I would like to thank the retreat organizer, Father Sylwester Cabala, as well as the confreres in Krakow, Father Jacek Zdrzałek (superior) and Father Bogusław Nawracaj (bursar), for their warm welcome.
