The National Shrine of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Parañaque (suburb of Manila) organized a training program for its volunteers on September 13, 2026, as part of its ongoing commitment to deepen their faith, strengthen their spirit of service, and encourage their active participation in the Church’s mission.
Two separate training sessions were held, focusing on “Alphonsian Spirituality” and the “Synodal Church.”
The first training session focused on “The Four Duties of a Confessor” by St. Alphonsus Maria de’ Liguori, taught by Fr. Lhionell Namora, C.Ss.R. He illustrated the four roles of the confessor—Father, Physician, Teacher, and Judge—whose purpose is to guide penitents toward healing and the renewal of their spiritual lives.
In addition to fostering a deeper understanding of the Sacrament of Reconciliation, the formation emphasized the importance of compassion, understanding, and sincere concern for others—values equally essential in our shared journey as a Church.
For his part, the second training session on the ” Synodal Church ” was led by Dr. Pablito Baybado, who explored the meaning of synodality and its importance in the life and mission of the Church.
The course emphasized that synodality is not simply a program or a process, but a way of being Church— people who walk together, listen to one another, recognize one another, actively participate, and share responsibility for Christ’s mission.
Through communion, participation, mission, shared discernment, and co-responsibility, everyone is invited to actively participate in the life of the Church. Authentic listening, open and honest communication, transparency, collaboration, and recognition of each person’s contribution are essential to making our service more welcoming, meaningful, and compassionate.
Ultimately, the training was an invitation for our volunteers to continue to grow in faith, listen with compassion, participate wholeheartedly, and serve together in the Church’s mission.
