Teachers house In Makengi, Kenya post project completion

Makengi is a rural community on the Redemptorist mission in Iruma in Kenya. The Redemptorist Solidarity Office for Africa and Madagascar is working with the Redemptorist mission in Kenya to transform the educational experience of children on the mission. The Redemptorists have built classrooms, sanitary blocks, dining rooms and teachers houses across three schools on the Iruma mission. One of the most transformative parts of the project is the building of teachers houses. Attracting and retaining teachers in rural communities can be very difficult. The picture attached shows the type of house that a teacher lived in before the Redemptorist project. The second picture shows the example of a teacher house built by the project. Fr. Gerry O’Connor C.Ss.R. , who works with the Redemptorist Solidarity Office for Africa and Madagascar just completed a monitoring visit to the project and he argues that ” Education transforms children’s lives and the educational support delivered by the Redemptorists on the Iruma mission is a great example of the Redemptorist model of Integral Evangelisation in Action “.
