Father José Amarildo Luciano da Silva, known as Father Amarildo Luciano, was awarded on Friday 22 October at the Manaus City Hall, where he received the Dom João da Mata Amaral gold medal. The honour was handed to him by the municipal councillor Ivo Neto.

According to Father Amarildo, this is a moment of gratitude and an encouragement to continue the work of evangelisation.

The award was a great surprise and joy for the radio station FM Rio Mar listeners who follow the priest who presents the programme “To be happy with the Redeemer” from Monday to Friday, from 7 to 9 o’clock on the radio.

Father Amarildo Luciano is a religious of the Redemptorist Congregation. In Manaus, he was parish priest in the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Educandos, then in the Parish Imaculado Coração de Maria, in the district of Morro da Liberdade, then in the Parish Sant’Ana in Conjunto Hileia.

In 2019 he was Vicar of the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora Aparecida in Manaus and is currently superior of the Redemptorists Vice-Province of Manaus, responsible for the mission of the Congregation in this area of Brazil.

The Dom João da Mata Amaral award is a significant honour, which is given by an authority in recognition of particular meritorious acts and social service of a chosen person. In this case, the recognition to Father Amarildo Luciano is for services rendered in the religious sector of the city of Manaus.
