The Confederation of Indian Redemptorists has conducted a six-day media training programme in Bangalore from 14th to 19th of September in Bangalore. It brought together about 20 media enthusiasts from different religious congregations.
The programme was the first joint media venture of the three Indian Redemptorist units. The Bangalore Province organised the programme under the banner Redemptorist Media Lab. The training focused on digital media and storytelling. It aimed to help participants create and share content through modern media platforms.
The programme covered the main areas of media production. These included photography, visual awareness, image editing, graphic design, videography, lighting, sound, storytelling, scriptwriting, interviewing and video editing.
Participants learned to use different software and digital tools for image and video editing. They also took part in practical exercises. The programme followed a smartphone-first approach. Each session included short inputs, demonstrations, guided practice, assignments, group work, screening and evaluation.
The sessions on storytelling and scriptwriting covered audience, purpose, message and story structure. They also included visual scripting, voice-over, B-roll and interviewing techniques. Another session introduced the basics of journalism and content creation.
The programme also focused on social media content and the use of artificial intelligence in media. Participants learned how to use AI for ideas, scripts, images, captions, planning and media workflows. The sessions also stressed accuracy, ethics, privacy and authenticity.
The training ended with a group media production. Participants created a complete media package. It included a five-to-seven-minute video, a short Reel or Short, edited photographs, a social media graphic, a thumbnail, a caption and a publishing plan.
The organisers followed the principle Do → Review → Improve. The programme focused on practical learning and effective storytelling, rather than technology alone.
