Saturday, November 6, 2021, at the Church of Saint Peter the Apostle in Philadelphia, USA, Bishop Bruce A. Lewandowski, C.Ss.R, Auxiliary Bishop of the diocese of Baltimore, celebrated the Mass and ordained two deacons to the priesthood: Joseph Le Thanh Huan, C.Ss.R. and John Baptist Nguyen Thanh Huyen, C.Ss.R.

These two confreres took their first vows on June 27, 2012, at the Shrine of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Saigon, in the Redemptorist Province of Vietnam. After completing the philosophy program at Saint Alphonsus Theologate, in 2015 the provincial superior sent them to study in the province of Baltimore, USA. They completed the theology program and were ordained deacons on January 23, 2021, at St. Gerado Church, Texas, USA. After nearly a year of pastoral immersion in Redemptorist communities, they have been ordained the priesthood to serve the mission of evangelization.

Fr. Joseph Huan shared about his Redemptorist vocation: “I met the Redemptorist for the first time when they preached the Lenten retreat at my parish. The community life and the mission of Congregation attracted me. I decided to join the Congregation to serve the most abanded poor.”

We give thanks to God and join our prayers for two newly-ordained Redemptorists so that they will be filled with God’s grace and fulfil the mission which God entrusts them. May our God bless them abundantly with his love and spirit of perseverance.

Duc Trung Vu, C.Ss.R.
