The Alphonsian Gathering, now in its twenty-first (21st) year and bearing the theme “Alphonsian Family: Journeying Together in the spirit of Mission,” aims to foster stronger connections among Congregations that share their spiritual lineage with St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori. As we gather to offer our gratitude to God for His boundless love and mercy, we faithfully carry out our respective charisms guided by the Holy Spirit.

After three years of being unable to gather due to the global pandemic, the Alphonsian Family, consisting of seven congregations, is coming together. These Congregations include the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (CSsR), the Order of the Most Holy Redeemer (OSsR), the Missionaries of Our Lady of Perpetual Help (MPS), the Oblate Sisters of the Most Holy Redeemer (OSR), the Sisters of Charity of Our Lady of Good and Perpetual Succor (BPS), the Congregation of Sisters of St. John the Baptist (CSSJB), and the Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help (SOLPH).

On October 8, 2023, the much-anticipated gathering unfolded at the St. Clement Mission Seminary, Cubao, Quezon City, graciously hosted by the Redemptorists. This long-awaited event brought together members of the Alphonsian Family, marking a significant moment in their shared spiritual journey. The event was officially opened with the Holy Eucharist presided over by Rev. Fr. Piotr Chyla, CSsR, the Director of the Redemptorist Spirituality Center in Rome. During his homily, he urged them to explore the roots of their respective congregations, encouraging them to delve into the rich history and charisms that had shaped their religious identities. Rev. Fr. Chyla’s words of wisdom echoed through the participants’ hearts. He reinforced the notion of steadfast commitment to their vocations, reminding them that their callings were not only personal but also integral to the larger mission they all shared. This encouragement ignited a renewed sense of purpose among the formandis, rekindling the flame of devotion to their spiritual journey.

One of the most captivating moments of the gathering was the insightful discussion on the essence of missionaries and the profound connection between their missions and their unwavering faith in the Lord. This discussion provided a platform for participants to share their diverse experiences and perspectives. It underscored the idea that missions are not merely tasks but are deeply rooted in the teachings and love of our Lord. The Alphonsian Family left this discussion with a deeper understanding of their missionary roles and a strengthened commitment to their collective spiritual mission.

The gathering, hosted by the Redemptorists, was a day of spiritual rejuvenation, reflection, and unity. Rev. Fr. Piotr Chyla’s guidance, the exploration of congregational origins, and the discussion on missionary essence all contributed to an event that reinforced the bonds of the Alphonsian Family and their shared journey in the spirit of mission.

The Alphonsian Gathering has been a testament to their shared spirit of mission, unity, and the strength of our community. Together, they have shown that they are more than just an assembly of individuals; they are a family bound by a common purpose and common mission. To renew their determination, they carry forward the lessons learned, the friendships made, and the memories shared. They continue their journey together in the spirit of mission, knowing that, as the Alphonsian Family, they are capable of great things.
