The Shrine of the Mother of Perpetual Help, which became a Jubilee Church in the Diocese of Verona, offers a spiritual journey for pilgrims.
The Jubilee, also known as the Holy Year, is an extraordinary and solemn event of the Catholic Church, which takes place every 25 years. This special year is dedicated to reconciliation, conversion, and spiritual renewal, offering the faithful the opportunity to receive plenary indulgence.
The Holy Year is in fact “a year of conversion, renewal and liberation for the whole Church; a year of mercy, in which to lay aside the burdens of the past and renew the impetus towards the future; in which to celebrate the possibility of change, to be and, where necessary, return to being truly ourselves, giving the best.”
But what is a Jubilee Church?
They are all the churches indicated as meeting places for pilgrims.
The plenary indulgence in the Jubilee Year 2025, as in every Holy Year, is an extraordinary act of mercy that the Catholic Church offers to the faithful. The indulgence may be received by the faithful who are “truly repentant, moved by a spirit of charity, who, during the Jubilee, purified through the sacrament of penance and restored by Holy Communion – as stated in the text of the Apostolic Penitentiary – will pray according to the intentions of the Supreme Pontiff.” It allows one to obtain a purification that helps one achieve eternal salvation, freeing the soul from the suffering it could undergo in purgatory.
The Jubilee Plenary Indulgence can be requested for oneself or for a deceased loved one so that they may obtain full mercy: it is a concrete gesture of love that, through Christ, unites us pilgrims on earth to those who have already completed their journey.
