On February 9, the Redemptorist family celebrated with immense joy 70 years of missionary presence in Nicaragua, a journey marked by the proclamation of the Gospel, closeness to the people and tireless pastoral work in Favor of those most in need. The Eucharist of thanksgiving was presided over by the vicar general of the Archdiocese of Managua, representing Cardinal Leopoldo Brenes, a gesture that reaffirms the communion of the Church with the Redemptorist mission in these lands.
Fr. Mauricio Rodríguez, C.Ss.R., parish priest of the Santísima Trinidad Parish, addressed a few words of thanks to all those present, recalling that these first 70 years are only the beginning of many more in the commitment to the Nicaraguan people. For his part, Fr. Darwin Omar, C.Ss.R., parish priest of the Most Holy Redeemer Parish, was also present, highlighting the importance of both communities as a living testimony of the Redemptorist charism in the capital.
Throughout these seven decades, the Redemptorist missionaries have been pilgrims of hope, walking alongside a people who welcome them with faith and affection. We celebrate this anniversary with enthusiasm, remembering with gratitude all the priests, brothers and lay people who have given their lives to the mission, those who still serve with dedication and those who have already departed to the Father’s house.
A special recognition goes to the youth, to the vocations born in this land and to the laity, who with their joy, witness and commitment are a key element in evangelization. Thank you for making it possible for the Redemptorist charism to continue to enlighten the hearts and renew the hope of so many faithful.
Congratulations, Nicaragua! May these 70 years be just the prelude to many more decades of mission, following in the footsteps of the Redeemer.
