On Friday, October 31, 2025, at 6:00 PM, St. Theresa’s Church in Thimbirigasyaya, Sri Lanka, was filled with praise and devotion as the parish celebrated the feast of St. Gerard Majella. This special occasion marked the 300th birth anniversary of the Saint, and the community came together to honor his legacy.
Fr. Morris Gerard CSsR, the parish priest, was the main celebrant of the festive mass. Fr. Sanath Fernando delivered the homily on the life of St. Gerard, highlighting his obedience to the will of God.
A highlight of the evening was the unveiling of a beautiful statue of St. Gerard Majella which was erected in the church premises to commemorate the 300th birth anniversary of St. Gerard. The statue was blessed by Fr. Jude Perera, CSsR., the superior of the community, and unveiled by Bro. Sumeth Sumedha, coordinator of the jubilee committee.
This gesture is particularly meaningful, given the parish’s long-standing relationship with the Redemptorists, who have looked after the parish for over 60 years.
A new hymn to St. Gerard, “Here the will of God is done…,” penned by Fr. Sanath was released during the Holy Mass.
The evening’s celebration was a testament to the enduring legacy of St. Gerard Majella and the devotion of the faithful in Sri Lanka.
Fr. Aruna Jayan, CSsR.
