“Little Pilgrims, Bearers of Hope!” — this was the theme for this year’s celebration of National Children’s Month at the National Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help, Baclaran Church, Philippines. Inspired by the Jubilee Year theme ‘Pilgrims of Hope,’ currently being observed by the Catholic Church, the event aimed to convey the message that all children are bearers of hope — within the family, the community, and the Church.

Under the guidance of the Redemptorist Children’s Committee (RCCom), a series of meaningful programs were organized for the children, including “My IDOL Saint,” a program designed to deepen their appreciation of the lives of the Blessed and the Saints by showcasing their talents and creativity; RCCom Family Day, which emphasized the importance of family and served as a heartfelt reminder of its central role in nurturing faith and values; and the culminating activity, Jubilee for Kids, a vibrant celebration of the giftedness and blessings that each child brings to the Church and the community.

Children also had the opportunity to learn through formations attended with their parents, focusing on the responsible use of social media and understanding the Safeguarding Policy, as mandated by Redemptorist VP-Manila.

Participants included volunteer members from various ministries such as the Redemptorist Children’s Choir, Redemptorist Children Lectors and Commentators, Redemptorist Children’s Animators, and Our Mother of Perpetual Help Altar Servers, along with other churchgoers who joined in the festivities. Children from other organizations and parishes also took part in the culminating event, Jubilee for Kids, which featured fun activities, storytelling, praise and worship, and lively Jubilee mascots that added excitement to the celebration.

Throughout November, we witnessed how the children expressed their enthusiasm and joy in serving the Church, sharing their God-given talents, building positive relationships, and growing in faith. Truly, these children may be little, but they bring greater hope — a hope that shines brightly for the present and the future of our Church. Their energy, faith, and willingness to serve remind us that the seeds of hope planted today will grow into a strong foundation for tomorrow.

Affirmed by Jesus’ words, Let the little children come to me,” may this Jubilee remind us that these children are not only welcomed but are essential companions on our journey as Pilgrims of Hope.
