Interview with Brother Laurence Lujan, C.Ss.R.

Brother Joao Batista de Viveiros, C.Ss.R. of the Nossa Senhora Aparecida Province has interviewed Brother Laurence Lujan, C.Ss.R. Consultor of the General Government of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, on the occasion of the celebration of the day of Consecrated Life.

The interview was broadcast by the Aparecida network on February 7 of this year, in the program “Fortes na Fé” (Strong in Faith) which usually features witnesses of the Redemptorist commitment to the Christian community.

“I was in the diocesan seminary for two years and discovered that it was not my vocation,” says Brother Laurence, as he tells us how his decision to become a Redemptorist brother came about.

“I myself have experienced how people regard the priest, those they seek out to receive the sacraments. But I have also seen how people trust the Redemptorist Brother. They feel closer to him. The brother is like a bridge between the people and the priest or the ministers of the church,” Brother Lujan explains about his first encounters with the Redemptorists.

Brother Viveiros then asked about the importance of a Redemptorist brother as General consultor of the Redemptorist Congregation. Brother Laurence responded: “I believe my role is to give the brothers a voice in the decisions of the general government. I offer the brothers’ perspective for the commitment of Redemptorists in each Conference, that is, on each continent. We now have brothers in almost every conference and province, and this is important.”
