Brother Ian Lucas, C.Ss.R., is perpetually consecrated to the Redemptorist Congregation during a celebration presided over by the Superior of the Province of Our Lady of Aparecida.

As of Sunday, March 15, 2026, the Province of Our Lady of Aparecida has a new Brother with perpetual vows. Brother Ian Lucas Lopes de Castro, C.Ss.R., gave his definitive “yes” to the will of God, perpetually professing the vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience.

The celebration took place at Our Lady of the Rosary Parish in Alagoa (MG) and was presided over by the Provincial Superior of the Province of Our Lady of Aparecida, Fr. Marlos Aurélio, C.Ss.R., with the participation of family members and fellow friars. During his homily, Fr. Marlos noted that this Perpetual Profession was made on the same day that the Redemptorist Congregation celebrates the feast of St. Clement Mary Hofbauer, the Redemptorist saint who brought the Alphonsian charism beyond Italy.

As part of the ceremony, the Missionary Cross was presented to the co-Brother with perpetual vows, reminding him that he should proclaim the abundant Redemption to all peoples, centering his spirituality on the death and resurrection of Christ.

At the end of the celebration, Brother Ian Lucas thanked everyone present and noted that this was the first time the Parish of Our Lady of the Rosary had celebrated a Religious Profession: “It is the 170th anniversary of the Parish of Our Lady of the Rosary, and this is the first Religious Profession to be celebrated here. May this be a special day to open our doors, the first of many more.”

Ian Lucas Lopes de Castro, C.Ss.R., was born on July 2, 1996, in Aiuruoca, Minas Gerais. Before entering the seminary, he completed high school and studied nursing. In 2018, he entered the São Geraldo Seminary in Sorocaba, officially beginning his religious formation. On January 16, 2022, he made his first religious profession. He worked for three years at the Brother Bento Community in Potim, São Paulo, which provides care for elderly brothers and sisters. At the Sanctuary, he also participates in celebrations, assists with liturgical activities, and leads the Marian Hour.
