The Redemptorist Province of Brasilia celebrated a moment of great joy and gratitude on May 2nd with the diaconal ordination of Francisco das Chagas. The celebration took place at the Basilica Sanctuary of the Divine Eternal Father in Trindade, bringing together religious, family members, seminarians, and the faithful in an atmosphere of faith and emotion.
The ordination rite was presided over by Bishop Mons. Danival Milagres, auxiliary of the archdiocese of Goiânia, who conferred the diaconal ministry on the religious through the laying on of hands and the consecratory prayer, a traditional gesture of the Church that marks the delivery and ministerial service of the new deacon.
The celebration was attended by the provincial superior, Fr. João Paulo CSsR, as well as several Redemptorist missionaries, seminarians, and representatives of the parish community of São José Operário Parish, where Fr. Francisco carries out his pastoral work.
Present at the celebration were the family of the new deacon, as well as thousands of faithful from all over the country who followed the ordination through the broadcast of TV Pai Eterno directly from the Sanctuary of the Basilica.
Originally from Tianguá, Francisco das Chagas was born on April 14, 1998, to Maria Ferreira de Sousa and Manoel Júlio Ferreira (deceased). He entered the Redemptorist Congregation in 2017 at the Blessed Pedro Donders Aspirancy in Caucaia, Ceará. During his formation, he studied philosophy at the Catholic Faculty of Fortaleza and theology at the Institute of Philosophy and Theology of Goiás.
Her vocational journey was also marked by her novitiate in Campina Grande, her missionary experience in Cotuí, and her pastoral work in Paraíso do Tocantins. Her perpetual profession in the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer took place in March of this year, thus solidifying her definitive commitment to religious and missionary life.
The diaconal ordination represents a further step on his path to the priesthood and strengthens the evangelizing mission of the Redemptorist Congregation among the people of God. The Redemptorist community remains united in prayer, asking the Divine Eternal Father to guide and strengthen the new deacon’s ministry in his mission of service, proclamation of the Gospel, and consecration to the Church.
