In a bold and visionary move, the Redemptorists of the Philippines officially launched Redemptio Studios during a ceremony held at the National Museum of the Philippines on 21 February 2026 in Iloilo. The event marked a significant milestone for the Federation of the Redemptorists of the Philippines (Province of Cebu and the Vice Province of Manila), signaling their entry into the realm of film, media, and storytelling.
The launch was held during the Red Charity Gala organized by the Province of Cebu to celebrate the 80th Oak Jubilee of the First Perpetual Help Novena in Asia. It was attended by the Joint Council of both units headed by Fr. Edilberto B. Cepe, C.Ss.R., Provincial Superior of the Province of Cebu and Fr. Raymond Urriza, C.Ss.R., Vice Provincial of the Vice Province of Manila. Confreres from both units were present, alongside lay partners and collaborators. A classical concert capped the evening, celebrating the convergence of faith and culture.
In his address, Fr. Rico John Bilangel, C.Ss.R, the Executive Producer shared the inspiration behind the studio’s creation. “When I told someone we were entering the film industry, they said, ‘Father, are you sure? That’s a dangerous world.’ And I replied, ‘Exactly. That’s why we need to be there.’”
He emphasized the urgent need to engage with modern media, noting that many people today spend more time-consuming digital content than in spiritual reflection. “If screens are shaping conscience, then conscience must begin shaping the screen,” he said. “If culture is forming hearts, then we must be present where culture is created.”
Fr. Bilangel framed the studio not as a side project, but as a missionary endeavor rooted in discernment and the legacy of St. Alphonsus, who used the most effective tools of his time to evangelize. “Redemptio Studios is a concrete expression of our commitment to conscience formation,” he declared. “Culture catechizes. Narratives inspire disciples. Stories shape moral imagination.”
With the unveiling of its logo and mission, Redemptio Studios sets out to become a beacon of faith-driven storytelling, aiming to influence hearts and minds through compelling narratives grounded in Gospel values.
