On 5th August 2025 A spirit of joy, gratitude, and deep devotion filled the air at St Alphonsus Community in Karen as the Redemptorist Mission in Kenya witnessed the solemn celebration of the Perpetual and First Profession of nine brothers.
With hearts full of thanksgiving, the Redemptorist family, relatives, friends, religious men and women, and well-wishers gathered in communion to celebrate a deeply significant moment in the lives of five brothers making their Perpetual Profession — Br. Lawrence Kiseli C.Ss.R, Br. Samuel Waswa C.Ss.R, Br. Patrick Otieno C.Ss.R, Br. Humphrey Wekesa C.Ss.R, and Br. Samuel Ng’ang’a C.Ss.R and the First Profession of four brothers — Br. Robert Ndunda, Br. Maxwell Onjara, Br. Brian Oprong, and Br. Joseph Wambua.
The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by the Provincial Superior of the Bangalore Province, Fr. Edward Raju C.Ss.R., who also received the vows of the brothers. He was joined at the altar by Fr. John Matthew C.Ss.R., Provincial Consultor, who concelebrated the Mass alongside Fr. Titus Mutiku C.Ss.R., the Mission Superior in Kenya and Redemptorist priests currently serving in Kenya.
In his homily, Fr Edward offered words of inspiration drawn from the liturgical readings of the day. Speaking with fatherly warmth and pastoral depth, he urged the newly professed brothers to rise above moments of doubt, hesitation, and suspicion in their vocational journey. He reminded them that religious life is a radical response to God’s call, a call to embrace the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity, and obedience as a profound act of self-giving love.
“This call comes not from human initiative but from God Himself,” Fr. Edward affirmed. “It is He who qualifies you, not your merits. Your ‘Yes’ is a sign of God’s love for you and your response today is a visible sign of your love for Him and His Church.”
This special day was not only a personal milestone for the nine brothers but also a powerful witness to the vigor and growth of the Redemptorist Mission in Kenya. It reaffirmed the mission’s commitment to nurturing vocations and accompanying young men in their discernment of the consecrated life.
We give thanks to God for the gift of these nine brothers and continue to pray for their perseverance, fruitfulness, and joy in their journey as Redemptorists Missionaries of hope in the footsteps of the Redeemer.
