The North America Formation Board held its annual meeting at the Redemptorist North American Theologate in San Antonio on September 1-3. The Formation Board comprises the major superiors of North America Fr. John Collins of the Baltimore Province, Fr. Joaquín Frausto Nájera of the Province of Mexico, Fr. Santo Arrigo of the Province of Canada, Fr. Kevin Zubel of the Denver Province and Fr. Dominic Long Nguyen of the Extra-Patriam Vice Province. Fr. Jerome Chavarria, North American Conference Coordinator, convened and presided over the meeting.
In addition to discussing formation budgets and other administrative matters, the Formation Board evaluates interprovincial formation programs, including their curricula and direction. Fr. Rémi Hébert, formation director, hosted us and participated in some of the meetings. We also enjoyed the generous hospitality of Fr. Mike McAndrew, senior presence at the Theologate, the students and the neighbouring apostolic community. We were inspired by the energy, camaraderie, and faithfulness of our youngest confreres.
At the end of the week, Fr. Kevin relishing the chance to be near his beloved Austin treated the Theologate to dinner in Lockhart, the “Barbecue Capital of Texas.” Nine pounds of brisket, sausage, smoked turkey, and ribs were no match for the students!
