The General Assembly of the Conference of Redemptorists of Latin America and the Caribbean

(Trindade, Brazil) The meeting of the Conference of Redemptorists of Latin America and the Caribbean began from Monday 6th until 16th of August in Trindade, Brazil. According to the program, the opening of the meeting took place on the 8th of August.  There are about 70 participants gather from different units.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the restructuring of the Redemptorist Congregation in the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean. “This assembly is part of the decisions of the general government. We had the 25th General Chapter in Thailand in 2016 where several decisions were taken, including the process of revitalization and renewal of the Congregation. We are working these days on those decisions that have become a sort of basic text, which are the results of the documents of the Chapter and of our constitutions, of the visits, of the extraordinary assemblies we have made, and also of the work of a commission that was preparing this work. “, explained Fr. Rogério Gomes, Consultor of the general government.

The opening Mass was celebrated by the Provincial Superior of the Redemptorists of Goiás, Fr. Robson de Oliveira and began preparing for the historic moment for all the Redemptorist Fathers. “These assemblies are convoked in different places that have various situations and structures. We have also other Redemptorist places in Latin America that encourage and give us another look about the mission that we have in the congregation“ Fr.  Rogerio added.

Representatives from different cities attended the conference. Javier Machado, vice-provincial of Resistance, Argentina, came to exchange experiences and plan the future. “There are people from Argentina, Venezuela, Colombia, the Caribbean, Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru … We are gathered here because we are working on restructuring the Redemptorists in the world,” he said.
