The Greek Catholic Redemptorists of the Vice-Province of Michalovce in Slovakia have a new Superior. He is Fr. Miroslav Bujdoš CSsR. The XIth Chapter of the Viceprovince made his election, and it was confirmed by Fr. Rogerio Gomes CSsR, Superior General on January 25. The next day, Fr. Bujdoš entered his office by professing the Creed in the presence of members of the ViceProvince.

Fr. Miroslav Bujdoš is 39 years old and has been a priest for 13 years. He succeeds the current Vice-Provincial, Fr. Marcel Lukacik CSsR, who has led the Vice-Province for the past eight years.

Fr. Miroslav Bujdoš CSsR was born on February 28, 1984, and comes from Stropkov, Slovakia. After graduating from the Gymnasium St. John Chrysostom in Humenne, he entered the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, where in 2009, he professed his religious vows for life. From 2002 to 2010, he studied philosophy and theology at the Pontifical John Paul II University in Cracow, and Tuchow, Poland. He received his priestly ordination on May 23, 2010, in the Basilica Minor in Michalovce. He first worked in the parish of Mother of Perpetual Help in Stara Ľubovňa as an associate pastor. In 2015, he was appointed vice-provincial treasurer and became a member of the community Redemptorists in Michalovce. At that time, he was also responsible for the youth and vocational ministry and worked on parish missions. He is the co-founder of the project: “missions in schools”. From 2019 to 2022, he studied moral theology at the “Accademia Alfonsiana” in Rome, where he successfully graduated with a degree of Licentiate (STL).

The Chapter of the Viceprovince also elected the so-called “Closer and Wider Councils” members. Fr. Metod M. Lukačik CSsR was elected Viceprovincial Vicar, and Fr. Jaroslav Štelbaský CSsR was elected ordinary Consultor. Fr. Ondrej Pacák CSsR and Fr. Jozef Troja CSsR will be members of the extended council (extraordinary Consultors).

In Slovakia, there are Redemptorists of two Catholic rites. The Province of Bratislava – Prague (Roman Catholic Rite) currently has 50 members. The Vice-Province of Michalovce (Greek Catholic Rite) currently has 29 members, three religious houses in Slovakia (Michalovce, Stropkov and Stara Ľubovňa), and two mission houses in Ukraine Uzhhorod and Korolevo.
