On Sunday, 15 October 2023, the eve of the feast of Saint Gerardo Mayela, deacons Martín Javier Pulache Villegas and Christian Rodríguez Méndez were ordained priests by Bishop Cristóbal Bernardo Mejía Corral, Bishop of Chulucanas, Piura.

The two Redemptorists were accompanied by confreres, family members, relatives, friends and faithful who gathered at the Eucharist in the Shrine of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and San Sebastián, in the city of Piura.

They were ordained by Mgr Cristóbal Bernardo Mejía Corral, Bishop of Chulucanas, an area of Peru where very humble and poor people live.

In his homily, Bishop Mejía Corral recalled that the priesthood is, above all, a solidarity with Christ and with others. The bishop also emphasised the priest’s role in continuing the work of Redemption, especially as a minister of the sacramental signs of God’s presence in the modern world.

At the end of the celebration, the new priests thanked the Lord God for the gift of their Redemptorist vocation and also thanked the bishop, their confreres, their families and all the guests present.

Full of joy from this special event and with gratitude for the missionary vocation of our brothers, we ask the Lord to guide them and support them in perseverance. May Our Mother of Perpetual Help keep them and intercede as they continue to minister as missionaries of Hope.
