For two full days, young Redemptorist priests from across Indonesia—those ordained within the last five years—gathered on 1st and 2nd of May at the St. Alphonsus House in Weetebula, Sumba. This annual workshop was part of their ongoing formation program.

The gathering provided a meaningful space to share pastoral experiences, deepen their knowledge, strengthen their vocation, and grow together in prayer and fraternity as young missionary priests. The event was guided by their mentor, Fr. Dandy Bastian, CSsR.

Day One: Preaching from the People’s Perspective

The first day began with a morning Mass that set a spiritual tone for the sessions ahead. The main theme of the day was “Preaching from the People’s Perspective.” In the morning session, Mrs. Angela Lele Biri gave a powerful presentation, offering insights into how laypeople receive and understand homilies. Ira and Is, representing Catholic Youth, shared valuable perspectives from the younger generation. In the afternoon, Fr. Robert Ramone led a reflective sharing session, encouraging participants to revisit their preaching practices and grow from each other’s experiences. The day concluded with guided recreation in the evening and a relaxed sharing session about their respective ministries and assignments.

Day Two: Enriching Preaching and Fraternal Joy

The second day took place at Villa Waikelo, where the priests explored various models of preaching and evaluated their own homiletic experiences. Fr. Dandy provided practical input and personal testimony to enrich the learning process. The midday session shifted into a lighter mood with lunch, karaoke, and card games—simple moments that strengthened their bond of brotherhood. Later in the afternoon, energy and laughter filled the field during a friendly soccer match against students from the upper preparatory class (aspirants).

Closing: Joy in Brotherhood

The entire event concluded with a festive dinner and communal recreation—a joyful celebration of brotherhood and mission.

See you next year with a new theme and renewed spirit!

Fr. Willy Ng Pala, CSsR.
