Father Rogério Gomes, C.Ss.R., was with the confreres of the Province of Nossa Senhora de Aparecida who serve in the mission in the country, during this fraternal visit from May 17 to 23.
This unique moment was marked by fraternity, listening and hope, further strengthening the bonds that unite the Redemptorist missionaries in their mission to announce the Gospel to the poorest and most abandoned.
During his stay, the Superior General met with the confreres who currently serve in the mission in the country: Fathers Alcelmo Alencar, Fagner Dalbem, Gilson, and Brother Thiago Ceará.
With each of them, a deep dialogue, the exchange of experiences and an enriching fraternal coexistence were fostered, both in the Religious Community of the Church of Sant’Alfonso and in the Brazilian Community of Nossa Senhora de Nazaret.
The visit was also marked by the active participation of the Superior in various celebrations, including masses and the traditional Perpetual Novena, privileged moments in which he was able to witness first-hand the missionary zeal with which the Redemptorists serve the people of God in Paramaribo.
His presence among the people was a sign of closeness and communion, further strengthening the evangelizing mission, carried out with simplicity, joy and pastoral zeal.
One of the most significant moments of the visit was the meeting with representatives of the four parishes assisted by the Redemptorists and with members of the Spanish-speaking community.
In an atmosphere of listening and dialogue, they shared concerns, challenges, and hopes, revealing the common desire that the mission continue to grow and respond faithfully to the cry of the people of Suriname.
The presence of the Father General was, therefore, a sign of confirmation and encouragement. He left words of encouragement and renewed the invitation to persevere in the mission with trust and generosity.
May this fraternal visit be a source of spiritual and missionary renewal, and may we, driven by the Holy Spirit and the Redemptorist charism, continue with hope in our hearts, certain that the future of the mission in Suriname is in the hands of Him who is faithful and guides His Church along paths of life and salvation.
