India: Grandparents’ Day Celebration at Our Mother Of Perpetual Help Church, Anjal Nagar, Madurai

On July 27, 2025, the Parish community of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church, Anjal Nagar, Madurai, joyfully celebrated Grandparents’ Day, a heartfelt occasion dedicated to honoring the love, wisdom, and lifelong sacrifices of our elders.

The celebration began with a special Holy Mass, where prayers were offered for all grandparents, both present and departed. The Mass was a spiritual tribute recognizing the vital role grandparents play in shaping families and nurturing faith across generations.

Following the liturgy, a vibrant cultural program was held in the parish hall. Youth from the community brought energy and joy to the event with a series of colorful performances, including music, dance, and skits. Around 80 senior citizens attended the celebration, many of whom enthusiastically participated by showcasing their own talents, reciting poetry, singing songs, and sharing reflections drawn from their rich life experiences.

Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Arul Sekar CSsR, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the enduring influence of grandparents in nurturing family values, offering guidance, and transmitting faith and traditions. He spoke with warmth and gratitude about their sacrifices, wisdom, and constant presence as pillars of strength in both families and the parish community.

To add a touch of fun, various games and competitions were organized for the senior attendees. The winners were awarded prizes, and all participants were given thoughtful gifts as tokens of appreciation. The program concluded with a hearty breakfast, bringing everyone together in fellowship and joy.

The celebration was a meaningful expression of love and respect for the elderly, reinforcing the parish’s commitment to recognizing and cherishing the invaluable contributions of grandparents.
