In honor of the peoples of the North, and their lands, Redemptorists of Cananda are proud to present this preview edition of a 2-part video series from Bishop Jon Hansen, Bishop of Mackenzie-Fort Smith diocese.
In preparation for COP30, the 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference, to be held in Belém, Brazil, from 10 to 21 November 2025, RedemptoristTV is proud to present two reflections from Bishop Jon Hansen, CSsR (Bishop of Mackenzie-Fort Smith): Setting Out on the Long Path of Renewal.
Bishop Hansen, along with Bishop Martin Laliberté, P.M.É. (Diocese of Trois-Rivières), are members of the Canadian Development and Peace delegation attending COP30 in Brazil.
Bishop Hansen has provided www.redemptorist.tv with a commentary on Pope Francis’ two encyclicals on the environment, Laudato Si (2015) and Laudate Deum (2023), along with his own observations of what is happening to the Northern environment, and its peoples, as a result of careless development.
Bishop Hansen also includes prayers he has written to Mary, Mother of Perpetual Help, Mother of Creation. Partial sample:
You who have always watched tenderly over the Church and her children,
we turn to you in this moment of reflection and hope.
You know the struggles of our northern lands—
the melting ice, the changing seasons,
the wounds of abandoned communities,
and the yearning of peoples to live in harmony with creation.
You also know the beauty: the silence of wide skies,
the strength of the rivers, and the enduring wisdom of Indigenous traditions.

Laudato Si’
Laudato Si’ is an encyclical about hope. It reminds us that we must change our course but also that we have what it takes to change.
Laudate Deum
Laudate Deum is a trumpet call to responsibility. It asks us to look honestly at what is happening to our land, our waters, and our communities, and to act with the urgency of faith, justice, and love.
