An ambitious international musical project has been launched in Capitanata (a region in northern Puglia, in the province of Foggia) to promote the famous Italian Christmas song ‘Tu scendi dalle stelle’, composed by St. Alfonso Maria de’ Liguori in 1744 in Deliceto. The initiative, promoted by tenor Luciano Lamonarca, includes the creation of an official website in three languages (Italian, English and Spanish), where visitors can discover the origins of the song, the original lyrics and the history of the composer, as well as download the audio recording and video clip featuring drawings by cartoonist Domenico Velletri free of charge.
The video clip, featuring Father Luca Preziosi in the role of Saint Alphonsus, was presented during a press conference at the Diocesan Seminary of Foggia, in the presence of Archbishop Giorgio Ferretti, the mayor of Deliceto Pasquale Bizzarro and Lamonarca himself. The tenor shared the personal meaning of the song, linked to childhood memories with his mother, and his hope that the project will unite families around the world in the celebration of Christmas.
The project concluded with the “Christmas Concert”, held on Sunday 21 December at 7 p.m. in Piazzale Belvedere in Deliceto. The event featured performances by tenor Luciano Lamonarca, soprano Angela Rosa Fico, violinist Ciro Formisano and the String Orchestra of the San Carlo Association of Naples.
Organised by the Municipality of Deliceto and supported by the Archdiocese of Foggia-Bovino, the concert spread the beauty and universal message of “Tu scendi dalle stelle”, a hymn that unites faith, art and tradition.
