During the week of April 13–17, 2026, the second part of the XXV Provincial Chapter of what is currently known as the Province of Mexico was held.

On the morning of Monday, April 13, the Chapter officially began with an opening prayer, words of welcome, the introduction of the 16 chapter members, and the official declaration that the chapter was open. Among the elected members present were Fathers Joaquín Frausto, Israel Romo, Fredy Castañeda, and Carlos Jiménez.

This Chapter will mark a significant turning point in the history of the Redemptorists in Mexico.

The Province is currently in the process of unification with the Provinces of the United States, a development that will bring new initiatives, structural changes, personnel adjustments, and, above all, renewed missionary dynamics.

Throughout the week, numerous proposals were discussed and approved. One, in particular, stands out: the recommendation that the Provincial Government, together with the Provincials of Denver and Baltimore, submit a formal request for the suppression of the current Province in order to establish a new entity— The Seelos Province of North America.

For Mexico, as for the other two Provinces, this step does not signify the end of a rich missionary history and tradition. Rather, it marks its continuation within a broader territory, opening the door to new challenges, risks, and opportunities.

As sons of St. Alphonsus, we remain committed to our mission of responding to the needs of the most abandoned, faithfully carrying forward our charism in this part of the world entrusted to us.
