The Second Provincial Retreat of the Province of “Mother of Perpetual Help” was held at the “Ave María” House in Capira, Panama.

The isthmian land of Panama, known not only for its magnificent canal and impressive skyline, also offers a rich and beautiful natural environment. This we were privileged to experience in the western region of the country, about an hour and a half from Tocumen International Airport.

We arrived on the afternoon of Monday, April 13, at Villa El Cacao, located in the El Caimito district of Capira. Surrounded by nature, it is a welcoming and peaceful place—ideal for stepping away from daily routines and allowing ourselves to be touched by God. We remained there until Friday, April 17.

“Few, but blessed.” Eight confreres from the three geographical regions of the Province gathered for this retreat. We were also accompanied by the Conference Coordinator, Fr. César Torres Pantoja, who guided us in reflecting on a very relevant topic in the Congregation today: leadership.

The moments of reflection and dialogue were deeply enriching. With the insight and guidance of Fr. César, participants were able to share openly and sincerely about the challenges of leadership in the present context, especially as the Province continues its process of consolidation.

We recognized the need to remain open to the “newness” of the Spirit and to embrace a form of leadership rooted in Gospel values—moving beyond attitudes that are merely transactional, manipulative, or calculating. Instead, we are called to foster a leadership that accompanies people in their personal histories, cultures, and even their wounds.

We give thanks to God and to the Province, which, like a “Mother,” continues to offer us opportunities for spiritual renewal and human growth. This retreat provided a valuable time to deepen our mutual understanding, strengthen our unity, and renew our shared vocation and mission entrusted to us by Christ the Redeemer.

We also extend our sincere gratitude to Fr. César Torres and the community of Saint Gerard Majella in Panama for their generous service and care during our stay.

Fr. Manuel Cruz Meza, CSsR.
