On the occasion of the tercentenary of the birth of Saint Gerard Majella, devout faithful gathered within the group “The League of Saint Gerard” experienced an intense spiritual moment at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish in Bérécingou, in the Diocese of Natitingou, Benin.

Coming from Porto-Novo and Cotonou, the pilgrims assembled from Friday, April 24, to Sunday, April 26, for a pilgrimage rich in prayers, praise, and fraternal communion. Initially numbering 54 participants, the group saw a remarkable increase, reaching over 70 faithful, reflecting the enthusiasm generated by this spiritual event.

The carefully planned program allowed participants to experience powerful moments through the recitation of the rosary, times of praise, intercessory prayers, Eucharistic celebrations, and a deeply contemplative prayer vigil. This pilgrimage was also marked by a renewed commitment of the faithful to follow in the footsteps of Saint Gerard Majella, as well as concrete pledges of support for the mission of the Redemptorists.

The presence of four Sisters from the Congregation of Saint Gerard, commonly known as the Gerardines, brought a special dimension to this gathering, strengthening the spiritual support for the pilgrims.

In total, over seventy laypeople and four Sisters took part in this gathering of faith, in an atmosphere filled with joy, fraternity, and fervor. It should be noted that the parishioners did not just hear about the event—they were themselves present and actively participated.

The pilgrimage proved to be a true success. The participants left fulfilled, bearing witness to the spiritual richness of this experience lived in the footsteps of Saint Gerard. The pilgrims returned home on Monday, April 27, at 8:30 a.m., in peace and gratitude.

This pilgrimage will undoubtedly remain a spiritually significant experience for the participants and will be long remembered in the annals of history. Strengthened in their faith and renewed in their commitment, the pilgrims departed with the ardent desire to walk faithfully in the footsteps of Saint Gerard Majella.

May he intercede for us all and continue to accompany each of us on the journey of faith, following Christ the Redeemer.
