The Oblate Sisters of the Province of the Most Holy Redeemer officially launch the campaign “Life is not a game,” an initiative to denounce and prevent the trafficking of women for sexual exploitation, especially in the context of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is being held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The campaign uses the metaphor of sport to denounce the commodification of life and the violation of human rights, seeking to raise awareness in society, promote protection and offer channels for reporting so that women in vulnerable situations can be heard, supported and protected.
Historically, the World Cup has been associated with an increased risk of human trafficking and sexual exploitation, as the massive influx of tourists and large amounts of money create a high-risk environment. Women are the preferred targets of these criminal networks, which exploit their social vulnerability with false promises of employment and a better life abroad.
The campaign’s visual identity communicates protection and authority through the contrast between innocence and femininity, symbolizing the fight for rights, respect, and resistance against gender violence, and the blue of the Oblate identity. The woman at the center of the logo, with open arms, alludes to the Oblate symbolism of welcome, but also represents a cry for freedom and the lives of women, while the ball and the shield reinforce the call for vigilance during the sporting event.
In this context, the campaign reinforces the commitment of the Congregation of the Oblate Sisters of the Most Holy Redeemer, corroborated by the work of its Serra-Schönthal Foundation, which has “a commitment to solidarity with women in contexts of prostitution and/or victims of trafficking for sexual exploitation, as well as to denouncing structures that do not respect the Human Rights proclaimed by the United Nations, especially in situations of injustice and violation of women’s rights.”
