Seventeen co-workers from across Europe walked in the footsteps of the Redemptorists, from Naples to Pagani, Scala, Sant’Agata dei Goti, and Rome, on a pilgrimage organised by the newly reestablished RYVM Commission for the Conference of Europe. Reflecting on the question “Quo Vadis?”, they returned home renewed in their shared mission of bringing hope to young people.

For many of us, this pilgrimage was deeply personal. It was an opportunity to draw closer to one another, build new friendships, and open our hearts. Throughout our journey, we found constant inspiration in the meaningful words, varied stories, and shared experiences of everyone present.

Our journey began in Naples, the city of our origins, where we encountered the early life and foundations of Saint Alphonsus, Saint Gerard, and Blessed Januarius Sarnelli. From there, we moved into deeper moments of connection, discernment, and spirituality as we shared our local ministries and our hopes for the young people we serve.

In Pagani, we stood at the site where Alphonsus gave his life to God, celebrating the Eucharist and giving thanks for a legacy that continues to shape us today. In Scala, we prayed in the quiet stillness of the grotto where Alphonsus received his founding inspiration, and we experienced the joyful encounter with the Redemptoristine nuns, which served as a powerful reminder of the wider family to which we belong.

Reflecting on these foundational places, Kristyna from the Czech Republic shared:

“Together we were able to see the places where our congregation was born; we were encouraged by the life of St. Alphonsus and the life of many who follow his legacy and welcomed us into their homes during the week. During this time of pilgrimage, sharing, and prayer, a beautifully international community was created, which was a great gift for me, but also a hope for the future of RYVM.”

Our pilgrimage then continued to Sant’Agata dei Goti, where Alphonsus served as bishop. Once again, we were welcomed with great warmth and hospitality, this time by sisters from Madagascar, as we shared prayer, song, and table together. From there, we journeyed to Rome, gathering at the heart of the Congregation. At the General House, celebrating the Eucharist before the icon of Our Mother of Perpetual Help, we were reminded of our shared mission: to make her known and to proclaim the abundant redemption of Christ to the world.

Throughout these days, we reflected deeply on the question “Quo Vadis?” (“Where are you going?”), recognizing it as a call meant not only for each of us personally, but for all of us together as a European Conference.

As Klaudio from Albania highlighted:

“We are called to listen to one another, share our gifts, and work together with courage and unity, especially in accompanying young people and bringing hope to those around us.”

Ultimately, this pilgrimage was far more than a journey through sacred places; it was a journey into relationship, identity, and shared mission. We came to realize more deeply that we are not isolated in our ministries. We are connected, called to walk together, to learn from one another, and to support one another in bringing hope to young people. With hearts full of gratitude for all we have received, we now return home renewed, inspired, and strengthened.

Together in mission, stronger together.
