Nigeria: Redemptorists of the Vice Province celebrate Youths’ Sports Fiesta and blessing of the Multi-Purpose Hall

The Second Edition of the Redemptorist Youth Sports Fiesta was organized by the Redemptorist Vice Province of Nigeria, on Saturday, 25th July, 2026, at St. Martin De Porres Catholic Church, Agric, Ojo, Lagos.

The event began with Holy Mass at 11:00 a.m., with the Vice Provincial Superior, Fr. Michael Emerue, CSsR, as the Principal Celebrant. He was joined by Fr. Noel Eshikena, CSsR, Vicar, and Fr. Godwin Abbah, CSsR, Second Consultor, as co-celebrants. The Mass was also concelebrated by other Redemptorist Priests and joined by the Brothers in prayer and thanksgiving. The Holy Mass set a spiritual tone for the day’s activities, reminding everyone of the importance of faith, unity, and fraternity in all aspects of life.

Following the Mass, participants from different Redemptorist parishes engaged in various sporting activities in an atmosphere of friendship, healthy competition, teamwork, and Christian fellowship. The celebration fostered stronger bonds among the youth while promoting discipline, sportsmanship, and community spirit.

At the end of the competition, cash prizes were presented to all participating parishes in appreciation of their enthusiasm, commitment, and active participation, ensuring that every parish went home celebrated.

We sincerely appreciate our host, Fr. Michael Emerue, CSsR, for his fatherly leadership and unwavering support. We also thank the organizing committee, officials, volunteers, coaches, participating parishes, sponsors, and everyone whose contributions made the event a resounding success.

Indeed, the Second Edition of the Redemptorist Youth Sports Fiesta was a memorable and highly successful event, strengthening the bonds of unity within the Redemptorist family and inspiring our youth to continue living out the values of Faith, Community, and Excellence.

The Second Edition of the Redemptorist Youth Sports Fiesta was made even more memorable by another landmark event in the life of the host parish, St. Martin De Porres Catholic Church, Agric, Ojo, Lagos. On the same day, Saturday, 25th July, 2026, the parish joyfully celebrated the blessing and inauguration of its newly completed Multi-Purpose Hall. The ceremony was performed by the Vice Provincial Superior, Fr. Michael Emerue, CSsR, in the presence of members of the Vice Provincial Council, the parish pastoral team, religious, and the parishioners of St. Martin De Porres Catholic Church.

The blessing and inauguration took place while the sporting activities of the Youth Sports Fiesta continued, making it a unique twin celebration of faith, community, and development. The new multi-Purpose Hall stands as a testament to the vision, dedication, generosity, and collaborative spirit of the parish community.

The parish expressed profound gratitude to God for the successful completion of the project and extended heartfelt appreciation to the Vice Provincial Superior for his pastoral support and for presiding over the blessing. Special thanks were also conveyed to the Vice Provincial Council, benefactors, donors, the building committee, parish leaders, and every parishioner whose sacrifices and generosity made the project a reality.

The simultaneous celebration of the Redemptorist Youth Sports Fiesta and the commissioning of the multi-Purpose Hall made the day a historic occasion for the Redemptorist Vice Province of Nigeria and St. Martin De Porres Catholic Church, Agric, Ojo. It was truly a day of thanksgiving, unity, and celebration, reflecting God’s abundant blessings upon the parish and the Redemptorist family.
