On the feast of St. Michael the Archangel, Bishop John S. Siemianowski of the Archdiocese of Chicago ordained Scott Partin to the transitional diaconate at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Old Town, Chicago. The ordination brought together confreres from Denver, Baltimore, and Canada – places where Scott served during his time in formation. Fr. John Schmidt came from Minneapolis, where Scott spent a portion of his pastoral year working at St. Alphonsus Parish. Br. Eumir Bautista joined us from Winnipeg, one of Scott’s summer ministry placements.

Fr. Andy Matijevic from Holy Name Cathedral was our MC, with Fathers Lamar Partin, Thien Hoang, Aaron Meszaros, Kevin Zubel, Thomas Pham and Larry Sanders concelebrating. Also joining us in celebrating Scott’s diaconate ordination were Cody Hill, Andrew Tran-Chung, Son Lai, and Dang Nguyen.

After the Mass, Fr. Larry Sanders, pastor, invited everyone to the parish’s feast day celebration in front of the church. The Filipino Food Festival featured five roasted pigs or lechon, lumpia, halo halo, and many other delicious traditional dishes. With the line for lechon wrapping around the square, the bright sun and cool temperatures provided the perfect ambiance for conversation and community building among everyone at the celebration.

As Scott begins his ministry as a transitional deacon, his diverse experiences in formation – Penn Medical in Philadelphia, the Welcome Home in Winnipeg, Templo de Nuestra Señora de Fátima in Obregon, Mexico and St. Alphonsus in Minneapolis, and more – will become key foundations as he serves the People of God in a new way.
