(Antigua, Guatemala)  The Assembly of the Province of Central America and the Extraordinary visit of the General Government took place in Antigua (Guatemala) from April 23rd to 27th 2018.

There were 46 participants, 40 confreres from the Province of Central America, 3 confreres from the North of Peru, 1 from San Juan and the Visitators Fr. Marcelo Araujo, Coordinator of the Conference of Latin America and the Caribbean, and Fr. Pedro López, General Consultor . The meeting was  also attended by our theology students who had moved from San Salvador.

In the assembly there was an atmosphere of fraternity and active participation, in which the Visitors presented the message and the decisions of the XXV General Chapter and the Plan of Action of the General Government. There was also the opportunity, on the part of the confreres, to contribute with many suggestions for the preparation of the Apostolic Plan and the processfor the restructuring of the Conference of Latin America and the Caribbean.

All the participants celebrated the Eucharist in the afternoon of Friday, April 27, presided by Fr. Nery Méndez, the Provincial Superior of Central America, in the Parish of the Most Holy Redeemer of Guatemala, where four confreres of the Province made Perpetual Profession: Roberto Carlo Betanco, Oscar Danilo Orozco, Edwin Alejandro Araya and Hairo Edmundo Escobar.

At every moment of the meeting, we thought about the situation of repression that the population of neighboring Nicaragua is experiencing. Some of the Redemptorist confreres stayed there accompanying the people.

Our sincere thanks to the Province of Central America for its warm and fraternal welcome.

P. Pedro López, CSsR
