We the Redemptorist family all over the world celebrate the Redemptorist Martyrs of Cuenca, Spain. They were martyred during the Spanish Civil War between 1936 and 1939. About 270,000 people including soldiers and civilians died. Among these Martyrs are six Redemptorist Missionaries: Fr. José Javier Gorosterratzu, Fr. Ciriaco Olarte, Fr. Miguel Goñi, Fr. Julián Pozo, Br. Victoriano Calvo and Fr. Pedro Romero. The martyrs were beatified on October 13, 2013.

Even today we witness political, social discrimination, and religious persecutions of all who profess their faith in the Lord as savior. In solidarity with these blessed Martyrs, our brothers and sisters may live as prophetic witnesses of the Redeemer who gave his life to reconcile all the faithful, and to unite us as sons and daughters of the family of God.
