The 26th General Chapter opened this morning 12 September 2022 with the celebration of the Mass of the Holy Spirit.
Father Michael Brehl, C.Ss.R., the Superior General of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer presided over the Eucharist concelebrated at 8.30 at the Carmelite Church, together with 91 delegates from all the Units of the Congregation.

In his homily, Father Brehl reflected:
“Accepting our call today requires courage and decision, like the courage of St Alphonsus when others abandoned him together with Brother Vito and were left alone in Scala. It’s like Clément’s courage when he was expelled from San Benon in Warsaw and he didn’t know if he would ever see his Redemptorist brothers again. It is the courage of our blessed martyrs in Ukraine, Slovakia, and Spain … Today we find hope in the courage of so many of our ancestors in the Congregation who set out to bring the Good News to others, following Jesus in the forests of Suriname and in the deserts of West Africa, the unexplored lands of North America and the ancient civilizations of India, Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam. We find hope in the courage of our confreres who have remained in hiding in Ukraine, Slovakia.

Then invitation to act:
“Like the disciples on the day of Pentecost, we must learn a new language that the people of today can understand. We pray that the Spirit will rekindle in us a renewed passion that bears a testimony more powerful than any spoken word.”
Eventually, the last words of the homily became the prayer of the community of members gathered for the general chapter:
“Father, pour out the gifts of the Holy Spirit to the ends of the earth and continue today the marvelous works you did at the beginning of the preaching of the Gospel. “
