The rain had been falling steadily from noon until late in the afternoon. Though the drizzle persisted, the faithful arrived with joy and anticipation to attend the Mass of lights on May 23, 2025, at St. Aloysius Gonzaga Parish in Cijantung.
The Mass carried the theme: “Pilgrimage with Mary: Igniting Hope in the Light of Christ,” with the sub-theme: With Mary, we walk in faith, sit in silence, share in the light, and build hope as one family of God. This moment was part of our spiritual journey in the Jubilee Year, inviting all the faithful to walk alongside Mary, open their hearts to the light of Christ, and become bearers of hope in the world.
Originally, the Mass was planned to be held outdoors, seated on mats in front of the Porta Santa. However, since the ground remained damp, the celebration was moved inside the church—without losing its depth and meaning. The church was arranged with soft lighting and candlelight, creating a serene and prayerful atmosphere. Taizé chants gently filled the space, leading the congregation into deep reflection and worship.
In his homily, Fr. Willy invited everyone to look to Mary as a model in our pilgrimage of life. “We carry the light of Christ in each step, and we are called to be that light in our families, communities, and society,” he said.
That evening’s Eucharistic celebration touched many hearts. The quiet atmosphere, the glow of candles, and the beautiful hymns helped draw everyone closer to the presence of God. One parishioner shared, “I hope this kind of Mass can be held regularly. It truly brings peace to the heart and deepens our faith.”
After the Mass, the community gathered in the church courtyard to enjoy various snacks and food brought from each family’s home. The warm, cheerful conversations and sharing of pilgrimage experiences added even more joy to the blessed evening.
The night concluded with Tebe and Ja’i dances, joined by sisters and parishioners alike. The music and simple movements became an expression of joy and true fellowship—a celebration of faith that rekindled hope and strengthened our unity as one God’s family.
