From August 4 to 6, the Redemptorists working in Mozambique gathered in assembly on the occasion of the fraternal visit of the General Government. The last time the General Government visited Mozambique was in early 2012. This time, the Redemptorist communities were visited by the consultors Fr. Nicolas Ayouba and Fr. Paul Vinh, who were in the country from July 27 to August 4. During the assembly, the Superior General, Fr. Rogério Gomes, was also present.
Representatives of the mother provinces also accompanied the assembly: Fr. Reinaldo Martins (Provincial Consultor of the Province of Brasília), Br. Marcos Vinícius (also from Brasília), and Fr. John Bermingham (representative of the Provincial Government of Dublin).
Among the Redemptorists currently working in Mozambique, five missionaries were present: Fr. Jorge, Fr. Ernesto, Fr. Marcelo, Fr. Alejandro (from the Redemptorist Province of Pedro Donders), and Fr. Antonio Vinícius (from the Province of Brasília). The first Mozambican Redemptorists — Brothers Benedito and Jaime — also participated with immense joy.
On August 6, with great joy, Brother Benedito made his perpetual profession, becoming the first Mozambican Redemptorist to take perpetual vows. The Superior General received his vows.
It was a time of abundant grace for our communities and for Mozambique with the visit of our confreres. It was truly a fraternal encounter, crowned by a beautiful celebration in the parish where the formation house is located, in the Maputo region.
Let us pray to God to continue blessing the mission of the Redemptorists in Mozambique and to help Brother Benedito persevere in his vocation.
