With the motto “Our devotions strengthen the faith of the people who walk with hope,” this event will allow our Redemptorist family, once again, to bear witness to the religiosity of Piura, a gateway to faith in South America.
The Redemptorist family of Piura shares the joy of the Jubilee of Hope. The Archdiocese of Piura is preparing to celebrate one of the most important religious events of the year: the Jubilee of Confraternities and Brotherhood, which will be held on August 16 and 17 at the Don Bosco College, bringing together hundreds of faithful, confreres, and pilgrims in an atmosphere of faith, tradition, and fraternity.
The event will feature the venerated image of the Virgin of Perpetual Help, affectionately known by Piurans as the “Morena de Oro,” who will leave her sanctuary, along with her Brotherhood, to reunite with her countless devotees. Other emblematic Marian and Christological devotions will also be present, from various parishes and communities in Piura and Tumbes. Along with these sacred images, such as the Virgen de las Mercedes de Paita, the Virgen Rosa Mística de Tumbes, the Lord of the Good Death de Chocán, the Lord Captive de Ayabaca, the Virgen del Carmen, the Lord of the Miracles of Piura, and Maria Auxiliadora, these devotions are deeply rooted in popular piety and will be the focus of processions, liturgical celebrations, and jubilee events that will renew the spiritual life of the community.
Activities will begin on Saturday, August 16th, with a meeting and greeting of the confraternities, followed by moments of veneration, praise, and prayer among the various groups. On Sunday the 17th, starting in the early hours of the morning, a masterly catechesis will be held on the theme “The Value of Religiosity,” followed by Holy Mass at 10:30 a.m., presided over by Monsignor Guillermo Elías, Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese. Immediately afterward, a closing ceremony will be held, with a Grand Jubilee Procession, in which the float will pass through the city’s main streets, accompanied by the faithful who, with songs and prayers, will pay homage to their faith and traditions.
This Jubilee, included in the Holy Father’s convocation to strengthen the unity and evangelizing mission of the Church, will also be an opportunity for Piura to show Peru and the world its profound Catholic identity and its cultural-religious richness, manifested in every confraternity, in every banner and in every processional step.
