“He Who Loves Jesus Christ Desires Nothing but Jesus Christ”
A Redemptorist’s Journey of Commitment Begins

On the evening of 1st August 2025, the Feast Day of St. Alphonsus, we witnessed a joyful and grace-filled moment as Novice Gene Vincent Lam made his First Profession of Vows as a Redemptorist at the Church of St. Alphonsus (Novena Church), Singapore. Surrounded by Redemptorist confreres, family, friends, and fellow religious, the celebration beautifully reflected the Redemptorist spirit and the deep love for Christ lived out by our founder, St. Alphonsus, who once said, “He who loves Jesus Christ desires nothing but Jesus Christ.”

A Celebration Rooted in Love

The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Fr. Victorino A. Cueto, who delivered a beautiful homily centered on the call to love Jesus wholeheartedly and live a life of total dedication to Him. He also reflected on the richness of Gene’s vocation and how it can embody the grace and mission at the heart of Redemptorist life.

On this special evening, the professed members of the congregation also renewed their vows, expressing once again a love deeply rooted in Christ.

A Heartfelt Thank You

After professing his vows, Gene gave a thanksgiving speech filled with gratitude to God, the Redemptorist family, formators, his family, and all who had supported him throughout his journey. He shared how their love helped till the soil of his heart, allowing God’s call to take root and flourish.

He concluded with a personal poem titled “The Garden of a Soul,” a quiet reflection on his journey, one that had been nurtured by grace and by the presence of those who had walked with him.

Living “Always” for God

This profession marked not just the end of Gene’s novitiate year, but the beginning of a lifelong journey walking with the Redeemer, for the abandoned, in the spirit of St. Alphonsus. Gene has responded to God’s call with a “Yes.” From now on, he will carry that “Yes” every day, turning it into “Always”, with love and perseverance.
